Hmmmmm

I'm hearing the call from this tree around the corner from my home, and thinking it a perfect opportunity to extend more of my Marrow series to the outdoors... maybe a collection of these around the city?

'Uh Oh', says Sancho, 'Here we go again, another distraction from my already interrupted walks.'

My biggest supporter, suspicious but patient as he tags along with me everywhere I go.

Let it snow....

 

Mushroomed, an outdoor installation at Stonehill College, is thriving in spite of the weather. The success of this experiment is going to spawn many more outdoor textile installations for me in the future. I'm grateful to the Cushing-Martin Gallery for their interest in keeping this piece installed after the show, Stitched: Nature Constructed, closed back in early December.

Goliath

January can feel like a month of Mondays. The beginningness of the year weighs heavily with yet to be fulfilled goals and obligations. It's easy to be overwhelmed by the scope of it all, especially while still catching up from December!

Action is the best antidote to this paralysis and today that meant getting back into the studio. I'm developing a mammoth felted orb in the vein of the 'Seeds' collection, but different. Feels good to be building again - a work in progress with many decisions to be made while moving into the light of 2012.

Exhale

Trying to get my groove back after the holiday break so have been going on some long walks. It's fun to look for all there is to see underfoot.  Sure enough I found something interesting... I love these pods. Not sure what they are or the type of tree they have fallen from... they're common around here and I probably should investigate but I'd rather take in their shape, color and texture for a while first.

Two weeks, two storms... and counting

On Friday night, November 18, we had our reception and artist panel for Stitched: Nature Constructed. A nice night of lively conversation with co artists Merill Comeau and Saberah Malik as we answered the thoughtful questions of the student moderators. Two weeks into the exhibit, after 6 days of heavy rain and wind, I'm happy to report that the outdoor installation Mushroomed is still intact, in place, and vibrant. Thanks to the gallery and building and grounds department for providing the spotlight.. I love the drama it creates.

Mushroomed

Yesterday was the install day for Stitched: Nature Constructed. A student curated show at the Cushing-Martin Gallery, Stonehill College. The students chose a theme, posted a call, reviewed artists and visited studios in order to make their selections.

The show consists of works by myself, Merill Comeau and Saberah Malik... each with our own response "...to the constant changing of nature - both natural and man-made, through the re-shaping of fiber to create images of ironic beauty."

Monday, November 7 - Monday, December 12

Reception and Artist Panel:
Friday, November 18, 6-8 pm

Four of my works are included. Undercurrent and Marrow plus two new pieces, Transplant and an outdoor installation called Mushroomed... something that grew quickly as if from nothing :).
